Shipbuilding Family History
The shipbuilding industry is forever embedded in my past and it has helped shape me into who I am today. I am the 4th generation in a row to work at a shipyard. My great grandfather was a Dock Master at Federal Ship in Kearny, NJ; my grandfather was the Executive Vice President at American Shipbuilding Corporation, overseeing the Lorain, Toledo and Chicago yards; my father was a part owner of the Toledo yard and re-opened the yard in Erie, PA. I worked for my father at Erie Marine for three years gaining a tremendous amount of experience in a short period of time. After getting a degree in Engineering, I entered the automotive industry, which brought an end to over a century of Schermond shipbuilding.
